LOUKAS PEINIRIS
MOSAIC CRAFTSMAN
HERAKLION – CRETE

Mr Loukas Peiniris, emanating from parents who born in Minor Asia, was born and lives in the Heraklion Crete, where employs also the work of mosaic craftsman, which is particularly laborious and tedious, because it requires strong hands, taste, good designing and continuous vigilance. Loukas, who works a lot of hours a day, does not only create portable pictures and other various work of his own inspiration, but also embellish with his work transoms of walls and embellish with mosaics small or big surfaces.
His mosaic work is work of high quality and inspirations, inalterably in the passage of time, because are constituted from small triangular, square, round or rectangle parallelogramic stoned tessera which are mainly emanating from rocks of Cretan ground.
Each tessera has area 2-9 mm and they are created by himself from various compact rocks with the help of traditional tools while today the usual mosaics have tessera area 1-2 cm, which not only make that signals his technical supremacy in the creation of mosaic work, but also the unmistakable supremacy and appearance of these against other work of colleagues modern mosaic craftsmen.
Mr Loukas Peiniris, in his micrographic mosaic work, shows the forms with thinnest tessera of various colours composed from small or big Stones or masses of rocks, or marbles the opti ground, the hard timber prinoy, which then places reversely, that is to say the good side to under, in prepared usually mould from bronze. All become with exceptional care and unimaginable assiduity. He wants via the mosaics to give high expression in the holy persons that he creates, emulated the genuine Byzantine Painting Art and imitating with the placement similar tessera the painting colour. Thus he achieves with intermediary tons of tessera, good chromatic physique and intellectual expression.
Many times in deed, in order to show the colours that he wants, he smooths with help of pliers the surface of tessera, in order the aesthetic tendency which is distinguished in his work, renders him unique.
More careful study of his mosaic work certifies that these are reported in the Greek Mythology, in the animal and plant kingdom, in the Olympic games and mainly in the historical, functional and dogmatic painting circle of Orthodoxe Church. They are noticeable for the drawing, the artistic ardour, the sense of colour, the expressiveness of beautiful, makes that certify the transcendent character of this art. Thus it presents representations of Greek Mythology and Classic Antiquity but also portrays the other world reality, expressing with figurative symbols the triumph of Church.
He seeks to represent a idealistic clean art with intellectual extensions, subjugating the material world in intellectual and veering secular in divine reality, when of course it is subjects the Old or Kajni's of Will. When however it is other subjects that concern mythological depictions or representations from the Prehistoric period. There come first the search of beautiful, the perfection of forms, the harmony and the representation of nature and person with idealistic way, while in the opposite case his work appears as if they disappear the volume, they have tendency for abstract significance and represent the intellectual world and the world of Kingdom of God.
Particularly in his picure compositions, it presents persons with dialectic attitude and hieratic officiality between movement and immobility and occasionally represents holy forms as if rock with rythm. Is still observed, powerful alternation of light and shade, while folds are attributed usually previously with soft luminous or intense surfaces, using smaller tessera for better output. And despite their conventional rigidity, this holy forms are fluid. Appreciable in deed it is his effort attribute in the work individual characteristics of holy persons, as big almond eyes, big nose, earl, intellectual expression etc, as are known from the art of hagiography of Byzantine mainly years.
